jungle is now a paved road. Where there was once a forbidding wall of wild jungle trees and underbrush I now saw a parking lot, a small museum, gift shops, lush toilets, and picnic tables.
In 1950, almost nothing of the temple, usually called “el castillo” or “the castle,” was visible except the frieze up near the top [see Figure 2]. The rest was jungle. Now, not only is the fully excavated temple visible from top
